The Battlegrounds Mobile India game aka BGMI is a multiplayer online battle royale game. It is developed and published by the Korean company Krafton. It is exclusive to Indian users. The first beta version of the game was released on 18th June 2021. Android versions of the game were released on 2 July 2021.
History
As of September 2, 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, banned PUBG Mobile and 117 other Chinese applications for violating the country’s laws.
In November 2020, some news came out saying PUBG Mobile will be returning to India with a brand new name: PUBG Mobile India. In November 2020, the news reported PUBG Corporation and South Korea’s video game maker Krafton Inc. had registered PUBG India Private Limited under the government of India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
In May 2021, it was reported that PUBG Mobile was rebranding to Battlegrounds Mobile India to enter the Indian market. After that, Krafton announced through a press release that Battlegrounds Mobile India would be launching in 2021 as a smaller game toPUBG Mobile game.
On June 21, 2021, IGN India first reported that Tencent-owned servers in China were receiving data about Android users’ devices. This could be due to the fact that Krafton is allowing BGMI players to transfer their PUBG Mobile accounts to BGMI up until December 2021.
Release
On 6 May 2021, the game was announced. The Android pre-registration period began on 18 May and the early access beta version of the game was released on 17 June 2021 only for Android users. The Android version of the game was released on 2 July 2021. As of now, Krafton is working to release their iOS app
